When you are creating a website the use of subdomains is most generally frowned upon. This is because first of all they simply do not look quite right, they require a prefix name and they are very often overlooked by the search engines. Let’s learn some more about subdomains.

Subdomains are often used as a substitute or a second tier of a normal domain. While a regular domain will look something like www.123website.com a sub domain will often look like http://xyz.123website.com as you can plainly see the difference between the two is that a subdomain does not start with “www”....

You will find that subdomains can have a great efficiency if you have done your keyword research. Just so you know the search engine spiders do not have a ranking system that can help them tell the difference between a normal domain and a subdomain. If you have done your homework with your keywords and have done a proper job with search engine optimization it will not matter if you are using a regular domain or a subdomain.

Now let’s imagine that you have a lot of categories on your website. If you know what you are doing you can use a subdomain and have great luck getting it indexed among the search engines. However this result could very well only be obtained by submitting you subdomain in several different categories in the search engines so it appears that your submain is a unique site in that category.

If you should find that the regular domain you want to use is banned there is really no need to worry about the subdomain that you have will be banned too.

Deciding to use a subdomain is not really wrong although it really lacks a professional looking quality. You can make each subdomain that you have into its own unique division. Just remember what works for some webmasters will not work for others so if you are unsure as to the proper usage of subdomains then by all means get a regular domain and keep that as your landing page.
