The Bad Side of Politics | Print |

Politics is a concept that was both misunderstood and misconceived. Politics is a very broad concept that even the great minds of long ago, who established politics and made it work, had struggled somehow to find an exact and complete definition for it. Using simple words and a short description, politics is the process by which a group of people decides. It is most evident in the government but it can be applied to several other groups and bodies like private corporations, non-profit organizations, clubs, and similar entities. So, when does politics become bad? It becomes bad when a certain group of people in power began using the authority bestowed upon them for their own personal gains. In a government setup, officials are elected to position not because of their popularity but because of the fact that many are expecting them to serve the nation and improve whatever it already have. The moment an elected official overlooks his responsibilities and start looking after his own welfare, whether openly or discreetly, is the same moment he becomes guilty of practicing bad politics.

It is rather hard to determine if a person would succumb to the bad side politics given its present state. There are a lot of good, straight persons changed by politics already. And it is a given that those people who were masquerading as tame sheep gets their beastly face showing just at the time they are securely holding onto their respective positions.

There are a lot of negative developments in the world today that can be attributed to bad politics. For one thing, Palestinian's and Israeli's unending wars are a direct result of bad politicking on both ends of the negotiation table. Spectators from different parts of the world could only perceive the war to be nothing but a struggle for absolute power. But it really isn't that way once you look into the finer details of the issues at hand.

Even the simplest, ordinary act of passing and ratifying bills on the lower house to the senate is a massive breeding ground for bad politics. People who have definite interest in a certain bill under processing would lobby for it all day and all night just to let it through. The more politicking they do, the higher are the chances that the bill will be passed. If they don't do anything and keep their mouths shut, chances are, the bill will be shelved for future considerations.

Not that all politics is bad. Of course, politics is conceptualized as something good and democratic before it was given a tarnished face by the same people who created it. Politics has an in surmountable power to change things. That is actually the main reason why a lot of people want to run for public office. Winning a position will give them the authority that could either make or break lives.

People in power have a big responsibility over their constituents. They are elected to an office because voters are confident that they would always do the right thing. But once that confidence is broken, it would be hard to ask people to bring it back again.

Cyber Law: The Laws of the Internet | Print |
Written by Irfan
If you think that the internet is a big, free-wheeling world, think again. The Internet became such a favorite hangout place of unscrupulous individuals these days. And primarily because of this, lawmakers are beginning to put peace and order over the internet. They all thought that there must be

laws applied over the world wide web. Without these laws, the Internet would never be a safe place.

And when the Internet is reduced to a place deemed unsafe for any transactions, it will become such a sorry loss. People from all walks of life come and meet over the Internet, do some trading, make some money accepting work-at-home jobs, and a whole range of other things. If there were no watchdogs, there will be little chance that the Internet would thrive in the same way it is thriving right now.

The Cyber Law is the body of regulations used to settle legal issues over the Internet. The concerns included are privacy, freedom of expression, intellectual property rights, and jurisdiction. The whole point of creating the Cyber Law is to integrate the same legal system to the Internet that is being applied in the 'real' world by all countries across the globe.

However, the first issue when it comes to the application of the Cyber Law is jurisdiction. How can a law of a particular country apply to Internet users if they call come from different parts of the earth? This dilemma is resolved by applying at least three valid jurisdictions to the Cyber Law. The sovereignty and jurisdiction of Cyber Law lies first, on the laws of the nation or the state where the user lives. Second, on the laws of the nation or state where the web server that hosted the transactions is located. Second, on the laws of the nation or state where the business or seller that initiated the transaction is located.

A simple example is this: a person from the U.S. tried to make a transaction to somebody whose business is located in Australia. However, the web hosting server of the website where the transaction took place is located in France. Therefore, the laws of these three countries apply to the people involved. Cyber Law states that if the transaction infringes the laws of any of these three countries, the erring party is punishable.

The only difference between the real world and the Internet world is the method of identification. In the 'real' world, people have legal names and ID's to identify themselves. In the Internet world, however, people are usually covering their identities. They don't give their real names, physical address, and even gender for personal or security reasons. Therefore, over the Internet, name and address are not important, unless the website is all about money, banking, finances, and other related areas where accurate information of the user is required. In the Internet world, people are identified using their username instead of their real name and e-mail address instead of their physical address.

But even so, a person's real legal identity is not disregarded. It is just hidden away from view of other people who may use such sensitive information for personal gains. This is another method of regulating the Internet from unscrupulous individuals.

A Closer Look at Spyware | Print |
Written by Irfan
Have you ever experienced a total slowdown of your computer system for no apparent reason at all? Then you must have been a victim of spyware attack you don't know it. Spyware may come in all shape and form. But they all generate from one source – the unscrupulous individuals who can't seem to resist prying into somebody else's personal affairs.

Spyware were initially created as the software, although not legitimate, to track the surfing habits of a particular computer user. It usually installs along with a program or a file downloaded over the internet. Spyware are discreetly loaded into a person's computer system so they won't have a way of knowing that something had gotten into their hard drive. Therefore, they won't remove it. All the users know is that they have downloaded audio files, screensavers, games, and other programs from a website over the internet. Most the software that downloads with a spyware are the free stuff given away by some doubtful sites.

What seemed to be a harmless program had turned into a big monster. Before, spyware are only used for research and market observation applications. The first generation of spyware had helped business and internet entrepreneurs a lot in knowing how internet users behave, thinks, and buy. Those businessed who had the first hand information from spyware adjusted their e-commerce sites accordingly and they have made it big in the selling and affiliate marketing business.

However, spyware had transformed into something else. From a useful business tool, it now acts more like a virus to a computer system than a discreet program running in the background. Spyware became an inconvenience when slowly, it is being used to redirect a user's browser to an entirely different site for the purpose of more download and spyware into the system. With too many spyware your computer is processing, it would slow down dramatically. Spyware could fill up its memory to the extent that it finds it hard to process even the simplest of tasks. This is the reason why a lot of people are now becoming wary of spyware and the industry had long tagged them as nuisance software.

But despite the fact that spyware were now illegal and distributing them over the internet is punishable by existing laws, there are still a lot of them lurking around the web. This is due to the fact that most spyware can reproduce and pass itself to other users over the internet. If you have seen links being distributed over instant messaging systems like Yahoo and MSN, you have seen spyware at work. The moment you click those links, your installed messenger software is doomed. Because it would start sending out messages on its own that contains the same link that infected you.

Right now, there are a lot of anti-spyware programs being created. Some anti-virus companies integrate them into their security software too. This is all because of the plea of affected computer users. They all want to be protected from these malicious software and have the power to remove them, should they still find their way into their system.

The Lasting Effects of War | Print |

It has been several years now since the most recent War of Iraq is supposedly won. But is it really a victory for the humankind? Have everybody benefited from the war just like leaders told everyone it should? Well, there are no simple answers to these questions. In fact, the answers could only be long, complex, and even astounding. The real effects of the War of Iraq are really on the people who had a first-hand experience of what had happened.

The people directly affected by the war were the soldiers themselves. These soldiers very bravely gave up their lives because they are faithful to their sworn line of duty. They follow orders without complains. They do what they are told without any considerations for their own safety. Losing brave soldiers to a war is painful. Losing lives in general, be it for wars or for any other reason, is such a waste. So why is it always okay for soldiers to be on the first line of bloodshed? Aren't they persons who are supposed to be protected as well, as much as they are protecting the country they serve?

The loss of these soldiers is hard enough for people who are just watching in the background. But how much more for people who love them dearly? How about their families, wives, sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers? What would they feel? When talking about a person, it is hard to discount the fact that he is part of an inner circle – a family that is hurt when he is hurt, no matter how estranged they might be from each other.

It had been said over and over before. Wars are never a solution to any problem. In fact, they could only compound the problem even more. What can't be settled on a conference table can't be settled on a battlefield. Because no matter how many soldiers you kill and no matter how cities you burn, the ideology of the person stays within him. The war won't change how he views things. If anything, it would only make him hold to his principles more.

Some fortunate nations are rich enough to stage a big war. With the millions they have stashed in their national bank account, they can order guns, weapons, ammunitions, equipments, clothing, and food for their soldiers. Sometimes, wars aren't just a battle of will power and strength. It becomes a battle of who is richer and better.

Wars don't have any good effect on a nation, much more on its youth. It could only set the wrong principles to the younger generations, more than anything. Government officials should make wars not only the last resort to conflicts but make them the unlikely solution to diplomatic problems.

The world can still be a better place to live in. Harmony can still be achieved. If nations engage in wars again, World War III would surely wipe out the entire globe. And that would leave nothing but chaos and darkness nobody would like to live and see.

No more Wii adds during christmas period. Console shortage blamed | Print |
Written by Irfan
Last week I wrote that according to Nintendo Chief, Wii stocks are not running dry and there will be plenty of them to go around during the festive season. But it seems that Nintendo has taken a U-turn on that stance. It seems that the stocks are running so low that they have taken decision not to advertise Wii console during festive period as this may make the situation worse and increase the stock shortage problem A spokesman for the Nintendo has be quoted saying that
The demand for the console is already too high and that it wants to take a “responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand”.
Instead of Wii, they will market its younger brother DS Lite as they have plenty of stock of it to go around. So to stress the point again, If you are looking to buy Wii during this festive season then you better get you hands on it quickly or your only option will be to buy it from eBay :)

google_vide_setup.jpgWhen i logged in my Google Adsense account this morning. I saw a new option available called "Google Video Unit”. It’s a great way to get targeted video content from YouTube for your site and earn extra revenue along the way. When you select the video unit options, it takes you to YouTube where you can log in with your YouTube ID or create a new one. Once this is done, you can then go back to you Adsense setup and select option "Video Unit"; you are presented with option to customize your video player (Check the screen shot). Once you configure the player as per your liking, all you have to do is press "Generate code" button to get the code. You can use this code in the same way as you would use Adsense. To see a live example of this, Visit my site at www.irfanfaruki.com and check out the video unit on sidebar

Wii stocks running dry??? Nintendo chief says No! | Print |
Written by Irfan
It seems that in the run up to Christmas, Nintendo Wii stock is running at all time low. Fans in US and Europe are complaining that they are not able to get their hands on Wii as they are not in stock in most of the store. According to recent reports from gaming industry, Wii is out selling PS3 & Xbox big time. This might be one of the reasons for low stock level. But some believe that Nintendo is doing this on purpose to generate more demand for it during festive season. But according to chief of Nintendo, this is not the case
